Paul James Berg

Paul and his identical twin brother Pat had a very close bond. Their father died when the boys were 14, and Paul did all he could to be with horses and cowboys when he was young. Paul enlisted in the Marines when he was 18 and went to Vietnam. When his hitch in the Marines ended, he traveled throughout the West working cattle ranches. He spent time in Nevada feeding with a team, doctoring cattle, and waiting for the roundup to start. At that time his brother Pat was working on a neighboring ranch. Paul was a quiet man, and he wasn’t one to brag. He worked on various sheep, cattle, and horse outfits throughout Wyoming. He guided hunters on occasion. He packed a lot. He could shoe enough to stay mounted and hired out as a farrier on occasion. He often took on the “rough string” and would ride colts where he could. He worked on a lot of cow camps and summer riding jobs and seemed happiest out in the hills. Son Will said he was “tough, brave, hard-headed, and loyal.” He raised five children Trish Taylor, Jason Ledoux, Will, Echo, and Jessee Berg.
