Fred Hageman

Fred was born and raised in the Douglas community growing up on the family ranch northeast of Douglas and north of Shawnee. Fred served in the 82nd Airborne Division in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After having worked as foreman for the LAK Ranch at Osage, Fred worked for the Farthing Ranch and The Diamond in Laramie County before returning home, at his father’s request, to assume full responsibility of the family ranching operation near Douglas. Subsequently, Fred purchased the home ranch. Fred always had a sincere appreciation for the working cowboy, as did his grandfather James C. Shaw who came to Wyoming on a cattle drive from Texas in 1879. Fred worked the ranch and remained a steadfast, loyal, diligent, unselfish man of courage and grit throughout his ranching career. He did the jobs of ranch boss; and ranch hand; riding horses, managing livestock, fencing, managing machinery, haying, and developing water projects. He competed successfully in bareback and bull riding events and was a part of the winning team at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Wild Horse Race. He also worked the arena and untied steers during CFD.
